🏼Light Up Fest – Inaugural Edition 🏼

Over 6 unforgettable weeks, we hosted lantern-making and storytelling workshops led by talented local community artists, in collaboration with residents, groups like Balsall Heath CATS, students and families from schools including Chandos Primary, Lindsworth, Queensbury New Horizons, and the wonderful participants of our free workshops at MAC Birmingham. These sessions culminated in the creation of stunning lanterns showcased during our Light Up Fest. We were truly overwhelmed by the incredible turnout of participants and the enthusiastic audiences who joined us for the procession. It was magical to see so many community members—young people, their families, and local residents—coming together for the procession, carrying their beautiful lanterns. The sight of hundreds of audience members gathered around Cannon Hill Park, watching the procession of lights go by, was nothing short of wonderful. Your involvement not only brought warmth and light to our community but also helped create a cherished atmosphere of togetherness.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our commissioning partner, MAC – Midlands Arts Centre,Birmingham City Council, HM Government’s Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund, and West Midlands Combined Authority for making these events possible. A special thanks to the core team behind Autin Dance Theatre’s productions: Annalise, Kirsten, Paulina & Adam, our amazing collaborators – Shelley, Oliver, Tori, Sarah, Mathew, Steve, Jim, Will, and Freya – and to Ashbourne Festival for their mesmerising Owl, Bostin Arts’ spectacular dragon, unforgetable stilts act by FalseFeet, EIF sound and music’s vibrant music, and Olivia Whitter’s BSL interpretation, which ensured the event was inclusive and accessible.

Together, we brought the community together to create something truly magical!

We kindly invite you to spend a couple of minutes filling out our feedback form. We would love to hear your thoughts on what went well and what could be improved. Gathering this information is crucial for us, as we aim to make a compelling case for investment for next year’s edition of Light Up Fest with our partners.
