Community Guardians call out

Autin Dance Theatre are seeking dance & movement community leaders (we call them guardians) to support the community engagement associated our touring work Parade-The Giant Wheel.

Autin Dance Theatre is a collaborative ensemble of creatives who devise & produce aspirational, socially engaged & mass participatory movement projects regionally & internationally. More information can be found here.

Parade-The Giant Wheel is a moving performance inspired by the beauty, power, and impact of people from different walks of life coming together, featuring a 12-foot tall Giant Wheel powered by 6 street artists and accompanied by music and a large community cast of local groups and individual performers.  More information about the piece can be found here 

Community leaders must be based in either of the locations:

  • Grimsby

  • Newcastle-Under-Lyme

  • Thurrock

  • Whitehaven

  • Winchester

  • Yeovil

We are seeking dance &/or movement leaders with experience in working within the local community to;

  • Support recruitment and engagement with local communities
  • Lead a number of dance and movement sessions with groups
  • Work alongside support workers or interpreters where needed
  • Support the liaison with participants alongside Autin Dance Theatre’s Education and Learning Manager
  • Attend 4 days of training with Autin Dance Theatre in April (15th to 18th of April 2024 in Birmingham)
  • Support local participants in the community cast’s performances of Parade
  • Advocate for the project locally
  • Support evaluation and monitoring alongside the Autin Dance Theatre Team

Parade Community Guardian Requirements:

  • Experience in leading dance/movement (physical theatre) workshops in the local community with a range of ages and abilities (for example in SEND schools, etc), with strong links in the local community
  • An up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure and Barring certificate (DBS)
  • An engaging, fun, and motivational leadership style
  • A high-level duty of care to your participants
  • An appetite to engage with people not currently engaging in artistic or movement practices in your local area
  • An appetite to spark positive change, growth and build relationships with partners in your local area, to support activities in the future (legacy)
  • Experience in working in inclusive practices – or a willingness to learn!

Not essential but desirable:

  • Performance experience
  • First Aid Training
  • Trained in Safeguarding Practices
  • Extra language skills (BSL, other spoken languages)

Training:

*This is a paid opportunity. Daily fee, travel expenses, and accommodation will be provided by the company. 

Monday 15th – Thursday 18th April 

10am – 6pm 

Midlands Arts Centre, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham B12 9QH

Parade Community Guardians will be required to attend all training as listed above. Training will include movement material and practice around leading Parade workshops, communicating artistic vision and themes around the work, information on the actual performance and process of performance days, engaging communities, models of good inclusive practice, access training and practicalities of the project.

Between 6-10 full days of work  (it may be 1-2 hour workshop, half day or full day depending on community group)

Pay:

£125 per day
