Parade Open Community Workshops at MAC

Enjoy a special opportunity to be part of a moving performance inspired by the beauty and power of people from different walks of life coming together on a choreographed procession. There will be a 12-foot tall Giant Wheel powered by 5 performers in circus and street theatre and an intergenerational community cast of local participants.

Autin Dance Theatre is presenting an ambitious street performance that has inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility at its heart. The free workshops leading up to the performance focus on movement, physical theatre and storytelling inspired by the themes and the live performances of Parade – the Giant Wheel

Our 2 experienced dance artists – Will Hodson & Stephanie Bentley along community coordinators will lead you through physical theatre, storytelling, and procession choreography. They will help you tell own stories and support the co-creation of a full movement of the procession.

Each workshop includes our signature warm up – plus accessible movement exercises, creative wellbeing check-ins, group discussions, and techniques use in dance theatre. The community sessions are open to people of all experiences and abilities.

Parade is a moving performance inspired by the beauty, power and impact of people from different walks of life coming together.

The performance features a 12-foot tall Giant Wheel powered by five street artists,  accompanied by music and large community cast of local groups and individual performers.

Autin Dance Theatre uses their unique blend of contemporary storytelling, striking physicality and innovative large designs to transport audiences and communities along a carefully choreographed procession.

The 50-minute travelling act is punctuated by three static moments that celebrate the tension and fracture between our individual identities and our shared collective humanity. Ultimately, Parade is about celebrating different journeys whilst honouring our shared life struggles.

The Giant Wheel carries the performers high above the streets, spins them around ferociously, turning their worlds upside down, at times giving them momentum and speed, and at others rocking them gently back and forth imitating the laborious and repetitive cycle of life.
