Parade – Technical Stage Manager – call out

Autin Dance Theatre are looking for a skilled Technical Stage Manager to join the production and UK tour of our new outdoor performance project called PARADE – The Giant Wheel.

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Technical Stage Manager to provide both technical and stage management support for the creation, delivery and tour of PARADE – The Giant Wheel; a new outdoor touring piece, featuring a 12-foot tall Giant Wheel driven by 5 circus artists & physical performers.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals from the global majority and under-represented communities that are based in Birmingham/West Midlands to join the Company for rehearsals and live performances on tour this summer! Team players with a sense of humour are also welcome!

About you:

Essential skills:

●   An existing track record as a Technical Stage Manager and/or Production Manager – ideally in outdoor contexts

  Desirable skills:

●      Some experience of supporting the delivery of participatory activities.

●      Experience in the construction of of large-scale outdoor sets and circus apparatus

●      Ability to drive a long-wheel base van

●      Experience of or ability to operate QLab

●      Experience of Heath & Safety practices including Risk Assessments and Method Statements

  Elements of responsibility will include:

●   Ensuring the smooth running of all production elements, in collaboration with the Director, Producer, Performers and other members of the creative team – to be confirmed in due course.

●  Working collaboratively with Johnny Autin and the rest of the creative team to deliver creation, rehearsals, production week and full initial UK tour.

●    Working with the creative team to source specific equipment

●    Supporting the management of the loading and unloading of the sets and technical equipment from transport into rehearsal space and festival sites.

●    Supporting looking after the set, costume, props and technical equipment, and carrying out repairs if appropriate, in collaboration with the team.

●    Driving the tour vehicle in a safe and legal manner, planning routes and ensuring legal and secure parking.

●     In some instances, looking after the pastoral needs of the company of 6 performers.

Fee

This opportunity is offered on a freelance basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own income tax and national insurance contributions.

Autin Dance Theatre will cover travel expenses, subsistence (per diems) and accommodation.

£175/day – Tech Rehearsals
£250/day – Performance Days

Creation and Production weeks will take place across the following period.

●   w/c 15 May and w/c 22 May: 2-week R&D at The Drill House, National Centre for Outdoor Arts and Circus, Great Yarmouth.

●    w/c 29 May: 1 week Creation Period, Walsall

●    w/c 12 June (TBC): 1 week Creation Period / Production Week (TBC)

UK Touring Dates

●      Fri 23 June: General Rehearsals, Walsall

●      Sat 24 June: Premiere Performance, Walsall

●      Sat 1 & Sun 2 July – Basingstoke Festival

●      Sat 8 & 9 July – Tynemouth

●      Fri 25 – Sun 27 Aug – Birmingham

●      Sat 16 Sept – Preston

●      Sat 30 Sept – Derby

More dates will be added over the course of spring 2023.
