UK PREMIERE

A large-scale travelling outdoor performance featuring a 12-foot-tall Giant Wheel powered by 5 street artists and a large intergenerational cast of local participants accompanied by live music to take over Walsall Arboretum on Saturday 24th June 2023 at 1pm & 4 pm.

Autin Dance Theatre uses their unique blend of contemporary storytelling, striking physicality, and innovative large designs to transport audiences and communities along a carefully choreographed procession.

The 50-minute itinerant act punctuated by 3 static moments aims to celebrate local community performers’ own individual identities and a shared collective humanity. Ultimately, Parade is about celebrating different journeys whilst honouring our shared life struggles symbolised by the Giant Wheel.

The Giant Wheel carries the professional performers high above the streets, spins them around ferociously, turning their worlds upside down, at times giving them momentum and speed, and at others rocking them gently back and forth imitating the laborious and repetitive cycle of life.

Parade is an ambitious street performance that has inclusivity and accessibility at its heart. Over 150 local participants from Walsall, Dudley and across the Black Country of different ages and walks of life will join the procession performance.

Parade’s community engagement plans in the Black Country include opportunities for local groups, individual participants and volunteers to practice the procession choreographies to join the large-scale mass movement experience.

Parade’s activities in the community and with local residents will engages with children (6+), young people, their families, adults and older members of the community to join and form a unique and intergenerational cast that will join the Parade on show day.
